This article discusses the poem “Aku, Nisan, Penghidupan” by Chairil Anwar written in 1945 as a form of expression of freedom and rebellion in the social and political context during the struggle for Indonesian independence. The purpose of this research is to analyze how this poem reflects individual identity and the spirit of struggle through the symbolism used. The method used in this research is a textual study with a literary analysis approach, which allows researchers to explore the deep meaning behind the words and symbols in the poem. The results of the analysis show that Chairil uses the symbol of “I” to express individual freedom and “nisan” to challenge death, while inviting readers to appreciate life.
